Definition
Telomeres are repetitive DNA sequences (TTAGGG in humans) that cap the ends of linear chromosomes, protecting coding regions from degradation and preventing end-to-end fusion. They shorten with each cell division and, below a critical length, trigger replicative senescence. Telomere length is one of several molecular markers of biological age; Epitalon is the peptide most commonly cited in this context.
