Definition
Mechano Growth Factor is a splice variant of IGF-1 (IGF-1Ec) produced by skeletal muscle in response to mechanical load and damage. It activates muscle satellite cells — the resident stem cells that mediate repair and hypertrophy. Synthetic MGF has been studied for localised injection into damaged or post-operative muscle tissue, though human clinical evidence is thin and it sits primarily in research protocols.
