Pineal Gland
A small endocrine gland in the brain that secretes melatonin — the anatomical origin of Epitalon's developmental story.
Definition
The pineal gland sits near the centre of the brain and produces melatonin, the hormone that governs the sleep-wake cycle. It also produces a handful of less-characterised peptides. Pineal extract research in Russia during the 1970s-80s led to the discovery of Epitalon, a synthetic tetrapeptide modelled on one of these peptides.
