Definition
Amino acids are small organic molecules containing an amine group, a carboxyl group and a side chain unique to each of the twenty standard amino acids. When linked by peptide bonds, they form the sequences that define every peptide and protein. The shorter the chain, the more likely it is called a peptide; over roughly fifty residues, the molecule is typically called a protein.
