Ghrelin is a 28-amino-acid peptide produced mainly by the stomach that stimulates appetite and, separately, growth-hormone release via the GHS-R1a receptor at the pituitary. Ipamorelin and related GH secretagogues exploit the latter pathway without activating the appetite side. Understanding this two-axis receptor is why GH secretagogues don't cause the weight-gain effects people sometimes expect.
