The hypothalamus is a small region at the base of the brain that integrates sensory, hormonal and autonomic signals to regulate body temperature, hunger, thirst, sleep and reproductive function. It releases releasing-hormones that drive the pituitary, making it the upstream node of the HPA, HPG and HP-thyroid axes.
