Definition
Reconstitution is the process of adding bacteriostatic water (saline with 0.9% benzyl alcohol) to a lyophilised vial, rehydrating the peptide into a stable, injectable solution. The protocol card states exactly how much water to add so that each marked unit on the insulin syringe delivers the correct micrograms. Reconstituted vials are refrigerated and typically used within four to six weeks; the bacteriostatic preservative prevents microbial growth during that window.
