Bacteriostatic Water

Sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol preservative — the diluent used to reconstitute lyophilised peptide vials.

Definition

Bacteriostatic water differs from standard sterile water in that it contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol, a preservative that inhibits bacterial growth. This lets a reconstituted multi-dose vial be used over several weeks without repeated contamination risk. Ships with every lyophilised peptide order and is never used in neonatal care (where benzyl alcohol is contraindicated).
