Clinical Concept

Inflammation

The body's protective response to injury or infection — helpful acutely, destructive when chronic, and a major target of several peptides.

Definition

Inflammation is a coordinated vascular and cellular response that clears pathogens and damaged tissue. Acute inflammation is necessary for healing; chronic low-grade inflammation underlies metabolic, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative disease. Peptides that modulate inflammation include BPC-157 (mucosal and tendon), KPV (α-MSH anti-inflammatory fragment) and Thymosin α-1 (immune balance).
