Liraglutide
Also known as Saxenda · Victoza
A once-daily GLP-1 receptor agonist — the older-generation alternative to semaglutide, with a shorter half-life and daily dosing.
Definition
Liraglutide is a 31-amino-acid GLP-1 analog featuring a fatty-acid modification that extends its half-life to approximately 13 hours, allowing once-daily administration. FDA approval covers type-2 diabetes management and chronic weight management. Weight loss results are documented at roughly 6–8% at 56 weeks, lower than semaglutide alternatives.
How Meto uses it.
Available at Meto for members with specific reasons to prefer daily over weekly dosing. Migration toward weekly medications has occurred since semaglutide's approval, though liraglutide remains clinically appropriate for select patient populations.
Safety notes
- Shares contraindications with semaglutide and tirzepatide (MTC, MEN 2, pancreatitis)
- Daily injection frequency requires stronger adherence than weekly alternatives
- Gastrointestinal side effects profile extends across more days monthly
