Kisspeptin
A hypothalamic peptide that triggers GnRH release — the upstream switch of the entire reproductive hormone axis.
Definition
Kisspeptin is a hypothalamic neuropeptide and the master regulator of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. It acts upstream of GnRH, triggering the pulsatile release that cascades into LH, FSH and downstream gonadal hormone production. Synthetic kisspeptin has been studied for hypogonadotropic hypogonadism and related reproductive disorders; it remains primarily investigational outside specialist endocrine practice.
